Bali is for sure one of my favorite trips of all time. My partner and I tried creating the ultimate travel plan, to see the best of Bali in just 2 weeks.
4 Days in Ubud
2 Days Sidemen
4 Days Nusa Penida & The Gili Islands
2 Days Uluwatu
2 Days Canggu
Be aware that this guide is not suitable for people who just want to relax. Going to all of these amazing places requires long rides, early wakeup calls, and lots of hiking!
However I truly believe that this is the best way of traveling. Of course we had lots of relaxing and enjoying the art of doing nothing in between!
Bali has always been on my bucket list, but I wasn't sure it would live up to the hype. I actually instantly fell in love with it. The balinese people are honestly the best people I have met until now. From rice fields, to mountains, to clear blue beaches, it honestly lives up to the hype.
Bali is definitely a destination you should add to your bucket list!
Let me get into detail regarding the locations to make things easier for you :)
Days 1 - 4 : UBUD
Ubud is a great place to start your Bali trip. I felt it was the cultural center. It is a great place to learn about the culture, eat balinese food, do a bit of shopping and go to lots of day trips!
My advice would be to rent a villa that is walking distance to the center, so you can truly experience it and walk around. Bali in general is not really "walking friendly" , since there are not many walking paths because most people use scooters or rent a driver for the day or a taxi! But Ubud was definitely better than most places, we walked all around!
Ubud is about an hour north of the airport, away from busy bars and beach clubs. Picture yourself experiencing the best massages of your life, visiting beautiful temples, practicing mindfulness, doing yoga and visiting waterfalls.
Top Things to do in Ubud & day trips from Ubud :
Tegallalang Rice Terrace
Monkey Forest
Kanto Lampo Waterfall
Leke Leke Waterfall
Nungnung Waterfall
Pura Tirta Empul
Things to experience :
A balinese cooking class
A yoga class overlooking the rice fields
Several massages! (My favorite was the Balinese massage)
Learn how to do a Balinese offering
Days 4 - 6 : SIDEMEN
Sidemen is a small village in the heart of Bali, that has the most beautiful Bamboo House hotels overlooking the rice fields, and stunning hotels with a clear view of Mount Agung, a volcano and the highest point in Bali.
Top Things to do in Sidemen & day trips from Sidemen :
Mount Agung sunrise
Virgin beach Bali
Lahangan Sweet (Sunrise)
Days 6 - 10 : NUSA PENIDA & THE GILI ISLANDS
Nusa Penida is an island off the coast of Bali famous for the Kelingking beach, also known as the "T-Rex". (Supposedly it is shaped like a dinosaur but I couldn't see it).
Nusa Penida has 2 worth while spots to visit, that are both on opposite sides of the island, so i did one location per day.
Top Things to do in Nusa Penida:
Kelingking Beach (do the whole hike down the beach, it is worth it! Be prepared with food, extra clothes, sunscreen and comfy shoes!)
Swim with Bali's giant Mantra Rays
Diamond Beach & Atuh Beach
Sunset at the famous "Tree House"
The Gili Islands is a place we wish we stayed longer in. It had the most beautiful beaches and clearest water. We had an awesome guide, and went by boat a day trip to do all the musts in one day.
Top Things to do in the Gili Islands:
Enjoy beach hoping
Swim with sea turtles
Go Snorkeling & visit underwater statues
Days 10 - 12 : ULUWATU
Uluwatu has the most beautiful relaxing beach clubs and amazing cliffs. It is the place to watch a beautiful sunset and watch the surfers!
Top Things to do in Uluwatu:
Balangan Viewpoint
Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Cliff
Suluban Beach
Days 12 - 14 : Canggu
Our last 2 days in Bali, consisted of lots of surf watching, cocktail drinking and relaxing. Canggu is the busiest part of Bali in my opinion. It is the home to digital nomads. It has amazing energy, and the dream life to be honest! It is definitely modern day Bali, and not so much the true Balinese experience.
Top Things to do in Canggu:
Take a surfers class
Cafe hop
Take a yoga class
spend the day at Finn's beach club
Watch the sunset from the beach
For now, this is a kind of summarised blog post about my two weeks in Bali! I definitely have so much detail and tips to share, which I will share soon in upcoming posts.
I hope this 2-week itinerary helps you plan your trip to Bali xx
